Airport Information
(Jacksonville, Florida - FL, USA)

Located in northeast Florida and next to Biscayne Village, Garden City, Oceanway and San Mateo, Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) is just short distance from Jacksonville's downtown district. The airport has become a major air hub for northern Florida and southern Georgia, standing around 15 miles / 24 km to the north of the city.

Operated by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, the airport's single passenger terminal handles traffic to the tune of over six million annual passengers, with non-stop flights to many major US cities with more than a dozen major and regional carriers, such as Continental and Delta. Each day, arriving and departing flights total well over 200 and this figure is set to rise, following the recent expansion work, which cost more than $150 million. Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) Information: History and Facilities
The mid-sixties was when the construction of Jacksonville Airport started, being completed three years later in 1968. Built as a replacement to the nearby old Imeson Airport, which had become too small for jet-drive aircraft, Jacksonville's new airfield soon began offering a range of domestic flights.

By the eighties and now known officially as Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), passenger levels had reached more than two million each year, prompting the need for a series of major improvements. Boeing jet-powered aircraft soon became a major fixture, and cargo flights rose sharply. Particularly notable was the year of 1990, when a new terminal building opened, costing in excess of $100 million.

Essential passenger amenities at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) include cash machines on both levels of the main concourses, postal facilities including a FedEx drop box, and a lost pets and property office. Many shops and restaurants are located on both levels of the terminal building, mainly on the upper Departures Level. These include outlets of the Silver Box and Dekko Designs jewellers, the Paradies' newsagents, Olde Town Books, NASCAR Café, Ybor City Brewing Company and Shipyard Brewery.

Other passenger facilities and services include a games room, a meditation room, an art gallery, seated massage, a 24-hour chapel and a shoeshine service. Business facilities at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) are excellent, with an onsite Business Center situated on the upper level, providing a range of services and resources, including mobile phone hire. In addition, there is the Delta Crown Room executive lounge on Concourse A and the well-appointed Clarion Airport Hotel located within the actual airport grounds.
